In Cuba, it is Santería. In Haiti, Vodoun and in Brazil, Candomblé. Across the African diaspora, the ancient Yoruba Ifa/Orisa belief system survived centuries of enslavement and efforts at conversion to Christianity.
In Trinidad and Tobago, Ifa/Orisa is still practised in more than fifty yards or shrines, many of them over one hundred years old. The tradition survived seemingly insurmountable odds as enslaved Africans secretly held on to their gods, rituals and songs.
Through rituals, drumming and singing of ancient chants, our immersive tour from Port of Spain to lower Santa Cruz will allow you to reconnect with an important element of African heritage– spirituality.
