Idakeda will play a critical role in the management of the Canboulay Street play for Carnival 2009. The play, based on an original script by Eintou Springer will be performed at 5am on February 20th, Carnival Friday morning.

This new role for Idakeda will see our team working directly with the main cast of the play, training and preparing them for their performance, incorporating the crowds scenes into the main plot and collaborating with the Regional Carnival Committee to ensure the entire play is a success.

This new approach has become necessary to bring an increased level of theatre and professionalism to the Carnival Friday event which continues to draw more and more interest from Carnival lovers, practitioners and performers from all over the world. This Friday morning event which began as a small aspect of the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival celebrations, has now become an integral aspect of the ritual opening of our beloved Festival.

Canboulay commemorates the 1881 riots in Port of Spain, pays tribute to our warrior ancestors of the 'Mas' and showcases their achievements to the entire society. The Carnival that we now take for granted was fought for by the former enslaved of the barrack yards, not only in Port of Spain, but also in East and South Trinidad. The riots of 1881 in Port of Spain were however the most significant.

We at Idakeda look forward to putting our Theatrical and Festival and Event Management skills to work in ensuring  that Canboulay 2009 goes from strength to strength!

Stay with us on our journey …
