Idakeda conducts Baby Doll Intervention with HIV Unit staff and community workers

In celebration of Mothers Day and as part of a staff outreach programme female staffers from the HIV Unit of the Ministry of Social Development received an opportunity to experience an Idakeda Baby Doll intervention

In celebration of Mother's Day and as part of a staff outreach programme, female staffers from the HIV Unit of the Ministry of Social Development received an opportunity to experience an Idakeda Baby Doll intervention. The session was an interactive one, featuring poetry by former Poet Laureate of Port of Spain, Eintou Springer and performance by dancer and actress, Dara Healy.

In the discussion period following the dramatic presentation, the women taking part in the Intervention shared their experiences as mothers, single parents and as children of mothers who had helped them to lay the foundation for their own lives. Additionally, participants discussed at length mechanisms to further deepen the involvement of  the HIV Unit and the women who spearhead its work in the lives of the young people of our nation.

Indeed, as a result of the strong emotions and views expressed, Aileen Clarke, Coordinator of the Unit and organiser of the Intervention, called on the women present to formalise their concerns by coming together even outside of the Unit to work more closely with young people who are ‘At Risk'.
