Acclaimed play Hyarima headlines 2008 Amerindian Heritage Celebrations

Eintou Springers play I Hyarima will headline Friday nights events during the week of activities commemorating Amerindian Heritage Day in Arima

October 13, 2008. Port of Spain, Trinidad – Eintou Springer's play I Hyarima will headline Friday night's events during the week of activities commemorating Amerindian Heritage Day in Arima.

The play, dedicated to the life and heroic battles of Nepuyo warrior Hyarima was first mounted in Arima for the 2007 commemoration of the Amerindian contribution to the development of Trinidad and Tobago. It was extremely well received by local and visiting First Nations peoples.

The play documents Hyarima's resistance to colonial domination in the 19th century and depicts the ability of this charismatic chief to inspire and motivate his people. This year's performance features an extended version of the play, delving deeper into Hyarima's involvement with the Amerindians' last stand at Arena in 1699.

Noted choreographer Allan Balfour will lend his skills and talents once more to the production, while veteran actor Errol 'Blood' Roberts will serve once again in the lead role, supported by Prior Joseph, Joshua Logan and a cast of experienced dancers and actors.

The performance takes place at 7pm in Santa Rosa Square (opposite the church) in Arima, on October 17th.
