The IDAKEDA Group. is pleased to announce the launch of its website “WWW.IDAKEDAGROUP.COM”. The website provides information on the body of work amassed by Poet Laureate of Port of Spain, Eintou Pearl Springer, after more than three decades of work in the theatre, literary and educational fields. The website is particularly useful for persons engaged in academic research in the areas of Poetry and Literature, Traditional African Religion and Theatre in Education techniques.

Apart from being able to view the information and materials which Ms. Springer has amassed over forty (40) years as an actress, author, poet and librarian, interested persons may now also purchase materials via the new online catalogue. These works include her most recent book ‘Loving the Skin I’m In’, her powerful play on domestic violence; ‘Shades of I-She’ and her most recent production ‘Baby Doll Meets Midnight Robber’, which uses traditional Carnival characters to present alternative life choices and behaviours to young people. The production was performed to hundreds of students in the lead up to the Carnival 2006 and 2005 season as part of the Messengers of Peace programme of the Ministry of Education. The production will once again go to a number of schools during this current school term.

IDAKEDA’s motto is Changing Communities through Culture, and since its inception in 1998, has built a track record of success in using various aspects of the culture of Trinidad and Tobago to conduct meaningful interventions into communities and schools, in an original and dynamic way.

The first twenty students to visit the site will have the opportunity to participate in a free writing workshop with Ms. Springer and /or audition for a role in one of the productions of the Popolito Players, the performance arm of the Idakeda Group.
