The Eintou Springer play ‘I Hyarima' celebrating the life of the Amerindian hero of Arima debuts this week at the north National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA), one of the premier performance venues in Trinidad and Tobago. The play features acting force of nature Brendon Lacaille as ‘Hyarima' and newcomers Makesi Algernon and Giorgio Gonzales as the warrior storytellers. The performance takes place on Thursday 18th at 10am, and will be preceded by cultural presentations by contingents of Amerindian peoples from the Caribbean. Entrance is free for all.

The play has been traditionally performed in Arima as part of the lead up to the commemoration of Amerindian Heritage week, to sold-out and appreciative audiences. According to Eintou,

"The play aims to bring the lifestyle and contributions of our First Peoples

into the consciousness of present day Trinidad and Tobago. More directly,

into the consciousness of present day Trinidad and Tobago. More directly,

the play focuses on Amerindian resistance to European exploitation."

It is anticipated that there will be a full house of school children, media and specially invited guests for the performance.
