Idakeda is partnering with the Emancipation Support Committee of Trinidad and Tobago to conduct a workshop to help parents manage ‘At Risk' Youth. Idakeda will be represented by Eintou Pearl Springer and Dara E. Healy who will showcase their unique intervention approach which incorporates the Culture and Heritage of Trinidad and Tobago, Arts in Education techniques and Movement Therapy. Criminologist Renee Cummings and child psychologist Anna Maria-Mora will also provide their skills to the all-day Parenting Workshop, which takes place on Saturday, May 6th at the Hotel Normandie from 8am.

Idakeda has a long track record of working effectively with parents, young people and teachers. Our interventions have been used successively in schools and communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago, the Caribbean region and globally.

As a result of our interventions, parents have committed to improving relations with their children while addressing their own behavioural change. Our workshops empower teachers and parents to communicate through the use of the nation language of Trinidad and Tobago, and the indigenous cultural forms readily available to them. This means that we also introduce them to local Stories, Proverbs, Legends and Sayings, and how they may use these in everyday communication with young people.

Our technique has been perfected over some thirty years through the work of Eintou Springer in At Risk communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago and globally, and the creative input of Dara E. Healy and Attillah Springer.

We at Idakeda wish to thank the Emancipation Support Committee for its ongoing support of our work and acknowledge our family of actors who will share the experience with us on the 5th – Camille Quamina, Sterling ‘Gamma' Kent and Tishana Williams.
