Canboulay playwright Eintou Pearl Springer has added another element to her play for the 2010 production; the Traditional Carnival Character, the Baby Doll is now included and will be played by actress and dancer Dara E Healy.

The Baby Doll character evolved as a Mas portrayal of resistance and defiance against the consistent raping of young African girls by white plantation owners. As a result, she cradles a white doll while going from Carnival Band to Carnival Band looking for the father of her child. Over the past few years Eintou has incorporated the Baby Doll as an essential aspect of her intervention work with young people, teaching morals, values and Right Choices through the character. Dara has performed the role of Baby Doll internationally and in Trinidad and Tobago as part of these interventions.

Dara is the newest member of an already experienced cast of performers including Muhammad Muwakil and Roderick "Chucky" Gordon as the Pierrots, Ken Alexis as Bois Man, Keon Francis as Bois Man and Maitre L'Ecole, Camille Quamina as Cariso Jane and Eintou herself as Miss Edna, the Elder.

Rehearsals for the play began this weekend and continue weekly until the final performance on February 12th.
