Blessings for the New Year from Idakeda

Idakeda was not allowed to simply watch as the rest of the world took its roller coaster ride this past year

Idakeda was not allowed to simply watch as the rest of the world took its roller coaster ride this past year.

Instead, we too plunged headfirst and rose to incredible heights along with everyone else on the global wheel. We held on though, and even as the ride progressed, we grasped every opportunity to learn, understand and fortify ourselves for the future.

We emerge from the 2009 ride slightly bruised and a little battered, but definitely stronger and wiser.

The positive aspects helped.

‘Ai Bonjay' our Primary School Storytelling Initiative has been a tremendous success, even after just one term. There is a dire need amongst our young people to reconnect with something that gives them pride, a sense of self and a glimmer of hope. We reached deep into the belly of the Culture and Heritage of Trinidad and Tobago and the history of all of our peoples to find this. Under the guidance of our Creative Force Eintou and the spiritual (and practical!) influence of Ida our ancestor in whose name we do all of this, we have been able to touch souls.

We give thanks also for the growing strength of Obelisk Communications and Chibale, and the increased professionalism in the management of our Theatrical Productions.

In 2010 we will return to the schools to continue expanding vistas and forging pathways. We will continue our work with organisations and in communities, and will turn our gaze to the Diaspora where our work has been received with such respect that we are encouraged to boldly go …

On this ride we encountered many who support our vision and our struggle; they negate the rest and for this we are highly appreciative.

We at Idakeda extend our blessings to you for the New Year, as you too face all the new challenges that 2010 will bring.

Stay with us on our journey …
