Prinicpals and Teachers express their approval of Idakeda Primary School Storytelling Initiative

Teachers and Principals alike have called for the continuation of 'Ai Bonjay' the Idakeda Primary School storytelling initiative, after a successful completion of the first term of this new programme. Ai Bonjay, launched in a number of schools in the Port of Spain area, is designed to engender positive values and morals, and encourage students to make better life choices. It is intended that Ai Bonjay will act as an important counter to the culture of violence and lack of identity becoming increasingly typical of our youth population.

Idakeda's Creative Force Eintou Pearl Springer conceptualised the ‘Ai Bonjay' curriculum and has written a number of new stories especially for this age group. Dancer and actress Dara Healy and a number of top local performing artistes such as Master Drummer 'Redman' and Spoken Word poet Muhammad Muwakil, work with Ms Springer in the schools and comprise the team for the series intervention workshops.

Idakeda representatives held consultations with Principals and Teachers prior to the implementation of this new programme, at which time there was a keen interest in being part of this new project. Their comments after the first term are indeed encouraging and demonstrate that Idakeda has developed yet another valuable Culture in Education product suitable for the young people of Trinidad and Tobago and of Caribbean heritage throughout the diaspora.
