Eintou Springer performs at the Cuban Poetry Festival

Eintou Pearl Springer Poet Laureate of Port of Spain will be one of the featured poets at the upcoming 13th Havanas International Poetry Festival May 26th to 31st 2008

Eintou Pearl Springer, Poet Laureate of Port of Spain, will be one of the featured poets at the upcoming 13th Havana’s International Poetry Festival, May 26th to 31st, 2008. Additionally, a number of Eintou's poems from her book Loving the Skin I'm in will be published in the Casa de Las Americas publication 'Anales del Caribe'.

The event, which is dedicated to Asian and native peoples’ poetry, is being put on by the Organizing Committee of Havana's International Poetry Festival and is sponsored by the Cuban Writers and Artists' Union, the Sur Cultural Project – for the promotion of Arts and Humanities, the Hermanos Saíz  Association – a young writers and artists committee, the Cuban Commission for the UNESCO, Havana City's Historian's Office, Andalusia's Sociedad de Beneficencia, and the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center.

Following are the main activities of the conference according to a release from its organisers: 

  • 4th World Meeting of Poets for peace and in defense of humanity
  • America's native languages' poetry: Mapuche, Guarani, Quechua, Aymara, Mayan
  • Space for the poetry of other national languages and dialects
  • Spaces for the Asian poetry
  • Poetic Action Palabra del mundo (Word of the World): A simultaneous reading in one hundred cities
  • Meeting in favor of water preservation
  • Workshop on writing
  • Salon of Plastic Artists from the South
  • Readings, concerts, plays, and movies from southern native peoples
  • Readings in open spaces, work centers, communities, schools and universities
  • Planting of The Tree of Poetry
